AccuSolar and Indiana University Partner to Advance Floating Solar Research

Floating solar technology is one of the fastest-growing segments of the global solar market and one of the least researched sectors of the solar industry. AccuSolar is working to change that.

We recently formalized our first university research partnership through ASPIRE (AccuSolar Program for Innovation, Research, and Education), a collaborative initiative designed to connect academic institutions with real-world FPV deployment and performance data.

Indiana University is our inaugural ASPIRE partner. Together, we are deploying a laboratory-scale floating solar system alongside a comparable ground-mounted benchmark creating a first-of-its-kind research environment on campus. This isn’t a simulation or a case study. It’s real technology, generating real data, in the hands of real students, faculty, and researchers.

The partnership is designed to deliver:

Credibility through research: Faculty and researchers gain access to live FPV and ground-mount systems, enabling rigorous side-by-side performance evaluation and publishable, real-world findings in an emerging field with limited academic literature.

Discovery through data: The deployment generates comparative operational data that can inform future FPV applications, sustainable water infrastructure planning, and the broader evolution of renewable energy systems.

Impact through education: Students engage directly with the technology through structured experiential learning opportunities, connecting classroom concepts to the industry problems being solved right now.

This is exactly the kind of collaboration ASPIRE was built for and Indiana University is just the beginning.

Beyond the technology itself, ASPIRE addresses a broader gap in public understanding of the renewable energy sector. The industry encompasses far more than residential installation it includes advanced manufacturing, software systems, environmental compliance, water infrastructure, finance, and policy. Our goal is to help students see and enter that full landscape.

We are actively seeking our next cohort of ASPIRE partner institutions and would welcome the opportunity to discuss how this program might align with your research priorities or sustainability goals. Contact us for more information.
